Two Human Skulls Found in Bull Valley, Illinois

COMMENTARY | The small town of Bull Valley, Ill., is not known for having a high crime rate. In fact, City-Data estimates the crime rate to be less than a third of the average for the United States. Houses here are beautiful, and the median value for a home is well over half of a million dollars. As a local, I know this very mysterious find was a shock to the community.

According to The Chicago Tribune, early Tuesday morning 12-year-old Tarren Garcia of Bull Valley was walking out of his home to get on his school bus when he came across what he thought was a dead bird. Upon closer inspection he was shocked; Not only did he find a skull, but it appeared to be human. It was a bright white color, and appeared to be older. The jaw bone was missing. Shocked, the boy and his mother phoned police, and they later arrived to begin their investigation.

The Woodstock Independent reports that at 8 p.m. cadaver dogs and about 40 individuals began a search over the family’s large property at the 1500 block of Cherry Valley Road. During the search an additional skull was found. It was in similar condition to the first skull, and both were found in the snow near the road. Richard Vance, Bull Valley police supervisor, said “we’ve not dealt with anything like this in Bull Valley [before].” No possibilities are being ruled out at the moment. Information about where the skulls came from is currently unknown.
