Three Great Cupcake Stand Tutorials

Have you priced a cupcake stand in the store lately? There aren’t many options to choose from, you have the cardboard ones that cost about $10 or the glass ones that cost closer to $20 or $30. However, many crafty bloggers have been making their own for much less, many with items picked up at the Dollar Store, and posting tutorials on how they made them. Here are three of my favorite cake stand tutorials that can be found online.

The Little Brown House: Dollar Store Cupcake Stands

Sharyl from The Little Brown House shares a tutorial that shows how she made cupcake stands for her daughter’s baby shower with items from the Dollar Store. The cupcake stands are made using a set of metal burner covers from the Dollar Store, two glass candlesticks, some spray paint, and scrapbook paper. She estimates the total cost of the project as $3.50. How nice is that?

Cake Journal: Cake Stand For Cupcakes or Mini Cakes

If you are looking for a larger cupcake stand than the cupcake stand tutorial shared by Louise on her blog Cake Journal is probably the best option for you since it can be made as tall as five tiers.

To make Louise’s cake stand you will need staggering size cake boards, Styrofoam cake dummies, satin ribbon, thick paper, craft glue, carpet tape, and metal pins. The cake boards and cake dummies can be bought fairly inexpensively at most craft stores.

Giverslog: Interchangeable Tiered Cupcake Stand Tutorial

Amber Lee, who blogs at Giverslog, shares another great tutorial for a two tiered cupcake stand with her Interchangeable Tiered Cupcake Stand Tutorial. The cupcake stand is made using a decorative drawer pull (Amber Lee got hers from Anthropologie), an allthread, a bolt and washer that fits the allthread, a candlestick, and a set of melamine or ceramic plates. You will also need a drill and bit for drilling a hole through the plates.

I really like Amber Lee’s cupcake stand for a number of reasons. The main two are the fact that with all of the brightly colored melamine plates that you can find there are so many creative possibilities for making them, and the second reason is the fact that it will easily disassemble for storage between uses.
