Three Amazing Musical Acts that Inspire Creativity as I Write

As a writer, I draw inspiration from everyday life. People, books, art and more can all increase my motivation to write and lend inspiration to the project I am working on. There are very few things that inspire me more than music. When I am dealing with a particularly nasty case of writer’s block, I don’t get frustrated. I load up my mp3 player with music by five amazing musical acts that are sure to defeat my writer’s block without a struggle. Here is a look at the five musical acts I rely on to keep my creative juices flowing.

Sigur Ros

Sigur Ros is an Icelandic band that has a completely unique sound. The only way to describe it is atmospheric. Sigur Ros takes the listener to another place and time, while transforming their mindset. Some of their best songs include “Hoppipolla,” “Staralfur,” and “Von.” The melody is ethereal and the voice of lead singer Jonsi is nothing short of angelic. Sigur Ros takes my writing to a higher level.

The Xx

The Xx is a U.K. band with a collection of brilliant, yet hypnotic songs that keep my writer’s block at bay. Some of their best songs yet include “Islands,” “Hot Like Fire,” and “Crystalised.” Like Sigur Ros, The Xx creates music that can be described as atmospheric. Many of the songs by The Xx have an interesting hypnotic vibe to it. While I am writing, I can turn on The Xx and the creativity flows from my mind and onto the paper.

Florence and the Machine

Florence and the Machine combine baroque style instrumentals with the powerful voice of Florence Welch to create an amazing, ethereal sound. Some of her best songs include “Seven Devils,” “Cosmic Love,” and “Blinding.” Florence’s music removes me from modern life and allows my creativity to soar.

Finding music that improves your creative flow helps to keep writer’s block away and improves your productivity. Find the music that gets you thinking, allows you to focus on the task at hand or simply inspires creativity where none could be drawn before. When it comes to writing, I never go far without my mp3 player and some help from Florence and the Machine, Sigur Ros and The Xx.
