I’ve found it peculiar that we have reached the middle of autumn, but I’m still able to go to the beach on the weekends with friends. We’ve been blessed, at least where I live, with one of the longest summers of all time. Scientifically speaking, it’s not summer anymore, and autumn has begun. But strikingly, the leaves are still as green as money, and the sky is still clear and sunny mostly every day. I can still go swimming. The water might be colder, but I won’t let go of that last glimpse of nice weather. Could this longer summer be a reality, or just my mind trying to hold on to such an amazing season?
How are others feeling in this transitional stage between summer and autumn? It’s always hard to let go of striking warm weather, and to let fall take its place. But why would I have to wait until next summer to have as much fun? It seems that humans (at least me) look at the end of summer as the worst time of the year. School starts up again, and for many people who get the summer off from work, it’s back to their boring routine. My question is, why do we have to look at the end of summer as the end of good times, especially when the weather is so nice. I don’t understand why it can be so warm, but no one is at the beach. Over the summer, there were tourists and just families overcrowding the beach (I live in Northeast), but now you can barely see anybody. Maybe the occasional dog walker taking their dog to the ocean.
Do we really enjoy summer just because it’s warm, or because we get time off of responsibilities? If we instead had a two-month break in winter, would we enjoy this break as much as we enjoy our two-month summer break? I guess it’s all the state of mind. Honestly, if we had two months off in winter I would be so happy! I usually spend the week we have off sledding outside with friends, and enjoying the christmas spirit, I can’t even imagine what two months of this experience would be like. Or if the break was in spring, imagine having days off while the snow melts, and warm weather is just coming about. Any of these breaks would be just as amazing.
