The Only Thing We Have to Fear…Is The Governments Fear of Terrorism

Hi. My name is Williamson and I want to talk to you about fear. I don’t mean fear of spiders, clowns, or the fear that one day you’ll wake up and find out you’ve switched lives with Richard Simmons. I want to talk to you about the FEAR OF TERRORISM. You see, our Government would have you believe that at any second, any minute, somewhere in this country, a sinister plot is being hatched to create terror in the hearts of Americans. The truth of the matter is that…they are right. However, not in the way they would have you believe.

Terrorism, as defined in the dictionary is described as such: The use of violence or threats to intimidate or coerce, especially for political purposes. Now with that being said lets take a look at measures that have taken place since 9/11.

THE PATRIOT ACT: This piece of legislation was passed shortly after the attacks on 9/11 under the guise of “Defending America’s Liberty” which is actually quite funny because the power it gives the CIA, FBI, DOJ, and DHS is pretty contradictory to what Liberty is all about. This act enables the Government to perform roving wiretaps, searches of business records, the spying on “suspected” domestic terrorists, and the ability to search phone, email, and financial records without search warrants. Now I know a lot of you are of the mindset that “If it keeps me safe I don’t care if it stomps on my liberties.” Well bubba heres the deal. After a few extensions and some tweaks to it the DHS has added the following groups to the “Possible Terrorists” list: Constitutionalists (those who believe the country should be following the constitution), Ron Paul supporters, people who support 3rd parties (I.e. Libertarian Party, Green Party, Tea Party) AND, my favorite, people who have flags or bumper stickers with anti -Government propaganda such as The Gadsden Flag (The flag that says Don’t Tread On Me). Yes sir according to that there are Terrorists everywhere! If you are interested in reading the list it was from the MIAC (The Missouri Intelligence and Analysis Center) report.

DEPARTMENT OF HOMELAND SECURITY: This lovely agency was created in response to the 9/11 attacks. While the Department of Defense deals with the military sector DHS deals with the civilian sector. You may know them best for the recent string of videos released titled “See Something, Say Something.” These videos encourage American Citizens to report anything that said citizen deems “suspicious” to the Department of Homeland Security. If you’ve not seen those commercials on TV you can step into pretty much any Wal-Mart in the country and see them on screens in checkout lines. Now my final statement on the DHS will be two different quotes from DHS Secretary Janet Napolitano. The first was said right after the Senate had voted down the Patriot Act extension earlier this year: ” We are facing our greatest threat since the attacks on 9/11.” The next day the Patriot Act was extended. The 2nd quote comes after the Patriot Act was extended: “”One of the most striking elements of today’s threat picture is that plots to attack America increasingly involve American residents and citizens” In 2001 Al-Qaeda and Osama Bin Laden were the terrorists. In 2011 It’s the American people .

THE TSA: This agency was created by the DHS to help stem threats in the transportation sector. You know them best by the invasive patdowns you get when you go to the airport. We have all heard the horrifying stories of little children being touched inappropriately and people dealing with medical issues being extremely humiliated in public. Still even with those events taking place most Americans say that they are fine with the patdowns as long as it guarantees their safety. NEWFLASH! Since 2001 there have been 25,000 SEVERE SECURITY BREACHES in airports around the country. Now, in response to the article that ABC News ran concerning those breaches, TSA said that “Those only reflect a small portion of the MILLIONS of Americans who fly every day.” Right, IT ONLY TOOK ONE BREACH for 9/11 to happen. Your safety is not guaranteed..at all. In addition to that, there have been numerous news reports of TSA agents stealing from passengers, running drugs, being involved in Child Pornography, and abuses of power. Like Ben Franklin said ” Those who give up liberty for temporary security deserve neither.”

THE WRAP UP: I truly hope that after reading this you take stock in what it means to be an American. The Founding Fathers of this country stood up to the biggest empire in the world at that point in time because they were sick of being oppressed. You are no longer free America. You no longer have the rights you think you do. I can come here week after week and rail against the recent injustices taking place against America but it is UP TO YOU THE AMERICAN PEOPLE to do something about it. Fear is a hell of a thing and as long as our government terrorizes us in the name of security things will only get worse. There are peaceful organizations out there dedicated to peacefully fighting the tyranny we face day in and day out. Join one and educate yourself. Try to educate those around you and lets take our rights back!
