The Content Authority Site Hacked: Update

UPDATE: According to Shawn Manaher from The Content Authority, “The hack against the site appears to be a superficial one. The database containing Social security numbers and other personal information is secured through encryption. Our hosting company has blocked any further access to our servers, therefore, we believe this information is still secure. The hacker or hackers did surface damage to the site hence what you see when you go to any TCA pages. According to the host company, this issue struck more sites than just TCA. The company is working diligently to resolve the issue right now and does not have an estimate of when everything will be fixed.”

Either way, your personal information is safe and sound. That includes names, addresses, social security numbers, and everything else.

On the morning of September 25, hackers took down the site for popular content provider The Content Authority. The party responsible is apparently “TiGER-M@TE” who is also responsible for hacking the Bangladeshi Google site, American Express, and Airtel among others. There is no word from TCA staff yet, but they are more than likely aware of the issue. For now, the site remains defaced by a page touting the breach.

There is no word available if any personal information has fallen into the hands of the hackers. All pages on the site redirect to the hack page. On top of that, users of Mozilla Firefox will see that heading to the site actually plays a little trick with the window. Clicking on an embedded link on the page leads to a page that “guides” a person through searching for the infamous TiGER-M@TE with insults included.

As of now, The Content Authority site is still unavailable aside from the defaced page. There is no telling when the site will be back, but it will hopefully be soon. Thousands of online writers use the site to make a side income. Therefore, the longer the site is down, the worse it will be for everyone involved. Hopefully, things will be resolved very soon.
