The Boy Who Wanted to Play Baseball

There was this little boy and all he could think about was playing baseball and becoming this great sports figure. He could see his image….of being about 25 years old, standing on the mound in his Yankee uniform.

One day his dad said: “I bought us some baseball tickets and we are going to the game tomorrow.” It was a Yankee’s game and the little boy got really excited.

Well, he rushed through his breakfast cereal of Cheerios, ate his piece of toast, grabbed his mitt (he liked to take it everywhere) and rushed out the door just behind his dad who was also in a hurry.

Their car wasn’t the newest. But, it did have nice seats and a clean windshield. Even though he was little, he could kind of see over the dashboard.

It sure was a long ride to the field.

It was a field in Tampa, where the team practiced.

Well, there they were. The ball got out of control, sped down the field, went into the stands and fell at the little boy’s feet.

He got it, yelled hooray, and tossed it back to one of the players.

What a day. It was the best day of the little boy’s life.

To this day, the little boy, now a man, treasures that baseball. Sometimes he likes to take it out of the cabinet, hold it, look at it, and remember that image of the little boy on the mound.
