I am new to this whole writing thing. I haven’t done it for any reason other that pleasure, but today, I am writing my FIRST EVER assignment. Now, for an assignment, I chose the best local music store in my area. This to you could be considered a conflict of interest, but who better to provide information about a music store than a musician?
I am, firstly, a home schooling mom. I work because I like to (and the money doesn’t hurt). My husband is a very talented mechanic and allows me to work at my own schedule. That being said, I work often. The only thing that I know is music. So, I sing. I sing at my local community theatre where I often musical direct the children’s musicals. I sing at church. I work with the home schoolers in the area on their singing. I also teach private voice, piano, and woodwinds. I am a busy bee. As a busy bee, I need to be able to go to one place to obtain my musical needs.
Over the years, I have found myself searching for that “family oriented atmosphere” just about everywhere I go. I look for that support with my job. I look for that support with my hobbies. I even look for it where I shop. Now, if I could avoid the dreaded Wal-Mart, trust me, I would have. Alas, I can not. However, I do shop at your basic “Mom and Pop” store whenever possible. A few years ago, I found the “Mom and Pop” store to beat all others.
It’s called Deerock Music store, located in Eagle Lake, FL, just off of Highway 17. Now, being the “new game in town” (even though they have been in existence for over 5 years) often lowers expectations as we walk in the door. Deerock is no flash in the pan. Their expertise in music and customer service gives this family friendly establishment a quirky quality of it’s own.
Deerock provides an excellent array of musical needs and if it isn’t in stock, they will order it and have it as soon as possible. They are willing to go the extra mile by staying open extra hours to provide you with what you need, providing a snack bar while you wait, or simply offering stimulating conversation. A kindness often over looked this day in time. They have recording studio on site and their prices are the most competitive that I’ve seen.
The thing that sets Deerock apart is the lesson program. Well, not the lesson program alone, which is wonderful with talented teachers and that great family atmosphere. The thing that makes Deerock’s lesson program different, is their scholarship program. See, Deerock provides students that don’t have enough money to come to lessons with an opportunity to gain something extra, be it guitar, piano, voice or self confidence. They collect money on a daily basis to provide these students with not only music lessons, but a safe place to go, and a place to learn more about themselves. The convenient snack bar provides the funds for this program as well as customer donations.
So, the best music store in town? Deerock Music Studio, located off of Highway 17 in Eagle Lake. Always willing, ready and able to serve your music needs, WHATEVER they may be. This is not only spoken by a customer, but an employee who, truly loves her job.
