Christopher Hitchens is without a doubt very intelligent man and I admire his strong stance against religion. Hitchens does a great job at exposing the hypocrisy, exploitation, and nonsense of organized religion. With this being said, I can’t say I agree with Hitchens’ attitude. For all the intelligence he has, there’s no need for him to be as condescending and arrogant as he is. Hitchens showed up on Bill Maher’s show where he insulted the intelligence of the audience twice and then cursed at them when they booed him. There was also Hitchens’ debate with Al Sharpton when a religion defending atheist asked Hitchens a question. Hitchens referred to the question as a stupid question. Hitchens later found himself agreeing with the audience member, to which Hitchens acknowledged that perhaps he owed the man an apology. Hitchens is a smart guy, but he also comes across as the stereotypical British snob who looks down on those who are less educated than he is.
