Stephen Colbert’s Super Pac Supports Rick “Parry”

Comedian and founder of Americans for a Better Tomorrow, Tomorrow Stephen Colbert has begun to run political advertisements in Iowa.

On June 30th, 2011 the FEC released an advisory opinion that granted Stephen Colbert permission to form a Super Pac. (The full advisory opinion can be read here). Since the formation of the Super Pac Americans for a Better Tomorrow, Tomorrow, Colbert has been collecting “unlimited funds”.

It appears that Colbert is putting some of those funds to use in his “support” of Rick Perry. The advertisements mockingly declare they are in support of Texas Governor Rick “Parry”. The advertisements ask Iowa residents to write in “Rick Parry”. The name is purposely asked to be misspelled because the, “A is for America and Iowa” (according the advertisement).

It is unclear if the political pundit will have an impact on voting, but it may bring to light the vast amount of other Super Pac organizations that are supporting candidates with unlimited money. Although this is not the stated goal of Colbert’s Super Pac (the real one is: “Making a better tomorrow, tomorrow.“) it leads many to take a look at who is actually supporting the candidates, especially Rick Parry with an “A”.
