Small Slinky Holds Hair and Creates Styles

Faux colorful feathers are trendy dressings for hair clips. But you can go modern and get lift and volume for fine or full hair using another playful, fashionable toy that’s been around for quite a while. It is the “Slinky.” The “Slinky” and brands that replicate the “Slinky” have made a tiny version that is party favor size. The party favor size is the size to use in your hair. Here is how you put it in your hair.

Gather a section of your hair. Hold the “Slinky” together. Do not allow the “Slinky” to space or your hair can get caught in-between the coils. Run the gathered hair through the “Slinky” and pull the hair up into a ponytail position or higher if you want it closer to your head. Pick the end of the hair up that you’ve just pulled through the “Slinky” and tuck it into the “Slinky” or tuck it into the “Slinky” and pull it through. Pulling the tuck completely through the “Slinky” is similar to flipping your hair over and under the “Slinky” and will help to hold your hair in place.

If you don’t pull the tuck completely through, you may want to go ahead and “Bobby Pin” the hair in place or to the “Slinky” to insure the “Slinky” will stay and not fall out. Either tuck will add volume to the hair, but more so if the tuck isn’t pulled completely through the “Slinky.”

A word of caution: The “Slinky” may ensnare and tangle hair. The tuck may also cause tangles.

The “Slinky” technique may be used to bun hair, do a ponytail or to add lift and volume. If you have two tiny “Slinkys” you can even make “Doggy Ears.” The placement and position of the “Slinky” to the head will help to determine the style you may want to use it for. For example, if you want the “Slinky” to bun hair on the top of the head, gather hair in the center of the scalp and run the hair through the “Slinky” until the “Slinky” touches the top of the scalp before performing the tuck. Pin the hair with “Bobby Pins.” For a bun at the back of the head, gather hair at the back of the head and pull the hair through the “Slinky” until it touches the scalp before tucking and “Bobby Pinning.”
