Silverware Kitchen Door Pulls

Let’s see, what all can you do with silverware? Sure, you eat with it. You can use a fork prong to untie the knot in a shoestring. Oh yeah, you can also use silverware to open your kitchen cabinet doors. Not because they’re stuck but because you can make cute door pulls out of ordinary silverware. A fork and a spoon can quickly become whimsical accents in your kitchen.

It’s up to you if you want to use all spoons, all forks, or both for door pulls. Cabinet doors which are side-by-side look cute when you use a spoon as the handle on one door and a fork on the other door. You can use nearly any type of forks and spoons but, if you’re using mismatched utensils, they should be proportionate in size. Remove any existing cabinet knobs.

When you lay a spoon and a fork on the table, two areas touch the table. One is the end of the handle and the other place is right above where the handle meets the spoon or fork part. Mark the areas on the back of the silverware where they touch the table with a magic marker dot.

You’ll need two, one-inch, aluminum screws for each spoon or fork. Use bonding glue to attach the flat end of the screw to the fork or spoon. You’ll find bonding glue – as well as the aluminum screws – at a home improvement store. Add a dab of the glue to the flat end of the screw and attach it to the underside of the spoon or fork, on the handle, a half-inch or so from the very end. Put the glue on a second screw and glue it to the second mark on the back of the utensil. The glue will need to set for about 20 minutes or so. Apply the bonding glue to both screws now and press the silverware against the cabinet door. Allow to dry 20 minutes.

You can strengthen the new knobs by screwing in a screw, from inside the door, into the back of the silverware. Drill a pilot hole and you’ll find it much easier to put in the screw.

The fork and spoon cabinet knobs are just as cute as can be and are really easy to create. If the color of the silverware doesn’t go well with the colors in your kitchen you can change them. Purchase paint made especially for metal and paint the silverware pink, blue, or another color, before attaching them to the cabinets. They’re whimsical, they’re adorable, and they’re a good way to use some of those odd flat wear pieces you have.
