Review: Urge Supreme Pizza with Self Rising Crust

My wife had to work until 6 yesterday evening and, even though she did get sent home a half hour earlier than that, I was pretty much in charge of picking up the kids and figuring out what we were having for dinner.

Since our local Kwik Trip store was on the way, I decided to just stop off there and pick up one of their pizzas. However, as I walked in, I remembered they also had frozen pizzas from other brands and, being on a budget, decided to check those out first. I ultimately ended up buying an Urge Supreme Pizza with Self Rising Crust.

I have heard of the Urge brand before. But, prior to seeing the pizzas, I had only seen it on snack foods (like cashews) and had never tried their pizzas before. But, they were considerably less than the pizza I intended on buying ($4.69) so I ended up giving one a try.

One of the first things I noticed about the frozen pizza when I got it home was it lacked toppings. It was supposed to have sausage, mushrooms and other vegetables on it and it did. But, they were scattered over it in a very small quantity. In fact, I was so unimpressed by this (and the lack of cheese); I ended up getting some chopped peppers and tomatoes out of the fridge and added them to the pizza before I baked it.

Other than the lack of toppings (which is usually a problem with most pizzas in this price range), the pizza did turn out to be better than I expected. For one, the crust on this was just the way I like it. It wasn’t a thin crust but it wasn’t too thick either. And, unlike so many other frozen pizza crusts, it was still somewhat soft when I bit into it.

I was also impressed with the sauce on this pizza. Under most circumstances, brands like this either don’t use any seasonings with their sauce or they use a combination that makes the pizza really spicy. That wasn’t the case with this pizza. The sauce had just the right blend of seasonings in it; enough to give it some flavor while complimenting everything else.

Overall, I have to say I was happy with my purchase of this pizza. There are better frozen pizzas out there (including the one I originally intended on buying) but I do think this is one of the better ones I’ve tried that was less than $5.
