About a week ago, my wife did some shopping and, as part of that, picked up some cookies for dessert. There was one package for everyone in the family but she also picked up a package that was supposed to be just for her, Pepperidge Farm Milano Melts.
These were dark chocolate cookies and, since I’m not a big dark chocolate fan, I had no problem letting her eat the entire package herself (the kids don’t really like dark chocolate either). However, today, she informed me there was one cookie left and she wanted me to be able to try it. So, after lunch, I did.
I’m not sure exactly what she paid for these cookies (the package says $3.60 but I’m guessing they were less than that) so I can’t tell you for sure if they were worth the money or not. That being said, I do think these were pretty decent.
For those of you who have never seen this cookie, it’s a crispy chocolate cookie with a dark chocolate cream filling. The package is a little misleading about the quantity of chocolate inside the cookies and there isn’t quite as much as it might make you believe (though the cookies are the same size as the picture). However, when I bit into one of these, I did feel the quantity was just right; enough to give the cookies some extra flavor without being the only thing you taste.
I also found I liked the dark chocolate; which was a bit of a surprise for me. It seemed to be a bit sweeter than some of the other dark chocolate I have tried. In other words, it tasted more like chocolate; most other dark chocolates taste more like coffee (and I’m not a coffee drinker).
My only real complaint about this particular product was the cookie itself. The chocolate filling gave it a decent enough taste. But the cookie itself seemed to be a bit on the dry side. At first, I thought this might have simply been the fact the package had been open for a little under a week and they were starting to get stale. But, upon further reflection, I don’t think that was the case.
Overall though, I do think this was a good purchase. I only got to try one this time around but, if she were to buy them again, I would make her share more of them next time.
