As parents, my wife and I do everything we can to make sure our kids are eating healthy. However, since they (especially the oldest) are sometimes picky when it comes to eating fruits and vegetables, we sometimes have to go the extra mile for them to make sure they are getting their servings.
A few days ago, my wife came across a product we had never seen before, Materne Go Go SqueeZ Banana Applesauce on the Go. Both our kids will eat applesauce on occasion and she liked the idea of applesauce they could walk around with (our youngest has issues sitting still for a long time). Since they were a reasonable price, she decided to give them a try.
Unfortunately, this product did not live up to her expectations.
As far as concept goes, this is a pretty neat product. The applesauce comes in squeeze containers that have a re-closeable lid so, when our kids aren’t eating it, we can put it right back in the fridge. And, they offer just the right quantity; enough to be a filling snack for our daughters without having too much for them (we don’t like the idea of wasted food).
But, as far as taste goes, I just wasn’t impressed with this.
I didn’t try this product at first. But, we did give some to our youngest daughter right away. We figured she would love it but she promptly spit it out (her sister wouldn’t even attempt to eat this after seeing that). At first, we thought it was because the applesauce was warm so my wife put it in the fridge for a day and tried again. It was pretty much the same result. Our daughter didn’t spit it out this time. But, she didn’t want more than one squeeze of it either.
Out of curiosity, my wife and I both decided to try this. And, I honestly didn’t blame my daughter a bit. The applesauce wasn’t terrible. But, the banana in it really gave it a strange flavor that neither my wife nor I found enjoyable. I know we wouldn’t eat it and I really can’t expect my kids to eat it now either.
Unfortunately, this means the majority of this applesauce will pretty much go to waste unless I can find someone to take the three remaining pouches off my hands. And, this certainly will not be a product we buy again as a result.
