Peter Johnson, Jr., Fox Legal News Analyst, Relegates Occupy Protesters to “child” Status, the Protests Look like the Tiki Room at Walt Disney World

This morning, while at work, the television in the lobby was tuned to the Fox News Channel. I live and work in a very conservative area, so this wasn’t surprising. If I leave it on CNN the channel gets changed, and just like other businesses the “customer is always right”. Right?

Gretchen was speaking with the a Legal News Analyst for Fox News, Peter Johnson, Jr.

They were discussing Mayor Bloomberg’s actions which resulted in the Occupy Wall Street Protestors removal from Zuccotti Park. No biggie right?

Something Mr. Johnson said kinda got my goat up.

He said, as if another person, (third person, singular, I think, been a while), that would be walking by the protestors,

“I’m trying to get a job, I’m trying to take care of my family, I’m trying to be a good American. And then I see, uh, you know, it looks like the Tiki Room or something down at down at Walt Disney World.

Three things occurred to me:

“Good Americans” don’t protest? Protesting was likened to being a child, and therefore not to be taken seriously. Isn’t that exactly why there are protestors? Everyone is tired of being treated like children or non-entities as far how this this country is run?

Governments everywhere would rather there be no protesting. Ever. But, we, as citizens of the United States, have the right to protest. Bottom line. Government would rather we call, write letters, vote, send email and so on. It’s much more peaceful and as passive as they are themselves. And that is the result we get too. A passive result. Which most often is NOTHING, unless it serves their own interests. Doesn’t seem to have gotten us very far recently. So, protest we do.

What do you think?

I am not a Law Professor nor am I a Constitutional Law Professor, but it seems to me that this guy, Peter Johnson, is pooh-poohing SOME citizens right to Free Speech. Since he, obviously, doesn’t agree with them, they aren’t worth listening too! Which has been a problem for some time in this country.

Is it just me? Am I reading too much in to his words? I don’t think so.

Hit me up with what you think. I’m interested to find out.
