Openly Gay Cincinnati Council Incumbent Seelbach Irritates Black Community

Avondale – Openly gay, Cincinnati City Council Challenger Democrat Chris Seelbach attended a packed community forum on Wednesday, sponsored by the African American Chamber and hosted by WDBZ “the buzz” radio host, Lincoln Ware.

Seelbach, irritated by the back and forth bickering between Council incumbents Charlie Winburn and Cecil Thomas, blurted out that he’d received a text that read, “I hear it’s a circus there.” His comment outraged forum attendees.

Seelbach appeared as a guest on Ware’s show after the radio host was bombarded with calls from listeners who had a list of complaints about Seelbach. In addition to the “circus” comment, callers stated that Seelbach was texting and taking pictures on and off throughout the forum, and that he later incorrectly tweeted that the forum was sponsored by the NAACP. As in all black organizations look alike.

Seelbach apologized for mixing up the organizations and for the texting during the forum.

“I’m tired, and I’m not a perfect candidate. I’m frustrated at the lack of civility on Council. If elected, I promise to work hard and be civil. I think I became a little frustrated that there are some candidates who stated that Democrats no longer support the African American community.”

At the forum Councilman Winburn told Seelbach that if he can’t take a little heat–he might not make it into the Council’s kitchen.

Seelbach may have come across as an uptight prick at the forum, but his website lists solid ideas to help Cincinnati, and the video on his website is endearing. It stars the late and highly respected, former City Council Member and Vice mayor David Crowley.

Can’t we all just get along?
