Musician Cameos on ‘The Simpsons’: Lady Gaga, 50 Cent, Britney Spears, Michael Jackson and More

Lady Gaga recently recorded lines for an episode of “The Simpsons” that will air in spring 2012. The Mother Monster’s episode is called “Lisa Goes Gaga,” and features an animated version of the pop star cheering up a dispirited Lisa. “Their characters are so awesomely convincing and sincere and wild and funny, I had to remind myself constantly of the sincerity of the humor,” she said of the experience. “That’s what I was trying to focus on, not putting on a character too much and really being as sincere as I could with the lines.”

Lady Gaga admitted that voicing a character on “The Simpsons” is “one of the coolest things” she’s ever done, but she isn’t the only musician to have taken an animated trip to Springfield; the following celebs have also voiced past episodes.

Zooey Deschanel

Zooey made an appearance on “Apocalypse Cow” in 2008 as Cletus’ daughter Mary. In the episode, the She & Him singer’s character helped save Bart’s prize cow from slaughter and was party to an unexpected proposal.

Ludacris

Ludacris voices an animated toothpaste tube named “Luda-Crest” in a dental hygiene clip for the show’s 400th episode. The rapper battles cavities with rhymes like, “Hey, you lowlife degenerates! Stop illin’ with the fillin’!” The musical commercial causes Lisa to contemplate the glamorization of tooth decay.

Mandy Moore

In the 2006 episode “Marge and Homer Turn a Couple Play,” Mandy plays Tabitha Vixx, a pop star whose marriage to professional baseball player Buck Mitchell is on the rocks. After Buck seeks marriage advice from Marge and Homer, Tabitha’s flirtatiousness nearly breaks up both marriages, but the episode ends happily.

50 Cent

Rapper 50 Cent appeared as himself in the 2005 episode “Pranksta Rap,” in which Bart sneaks out to attend a rap concert. The music mogul spots Bart and gives him advice thinking that it would count towards his community service.

Nancy Cartwright, who voices Bart, called 50 Cent a “pussycat” when asked about the recording session for “Pranksta Rap.”

Travis Barker

Travis and his Blink-182 bandmates appeared on a February 2003 episode of “The Simpsons” called “Barting Over.” Following a family dispute, Bart becomes emancipated from his parents, moves out and befriends Tony Hawk. At one of the pro skateboarder’s parties, Blink-182 is the featured band.

Blink-182’s Mark Hoppus said of the episode, “Being a character on ‘The Simpsons’ is truly one of those ‘wow, this is unreal’ moments that we’ve been lucky enough to experience. It still makes my day every time I think about it.”

Justin Timberlake

Justin and his N’ Sync bandmates appeared in “New Kids on the Blecch,” a February 2001 episode that sees Bart join a boy band called the Party Posse. Lisa discovers that the band’s new video, “Drop Da Bomb,” features subliminal messages to join the Navy. At the end of the episode, N’ Sync smooths over the gag by telling viewers that Navy cadets help keep Americans safe.

Britney Spears

Britney appeared on “The Simpsons” in January 2000 as herself. In the episode, the then-18-year-old is an emcee at the Springfield Pride Awards; during the ceremony, she kisses the town’s oldest resident, Cornelius Chapman, which accidentally kills him. Mr. Burns subsequently avoids her kiss when he approaches the stage to receive his award.

Michael Jackson

Michael’s connections with “The Simpsons” ran deep; besides voicing Leon Kompowski in the show’s Season 3 premiere, “Stark Raving Dad,” he wrote the song “Do the Batman.” Due to his record contract, however, the King of Pop never actually sang on the show; the songs in the September 1991 episode were sung by Kipp Lennon instead.
