Morphing into the Unknown

She couldn’t remember when she ever felt this strange. Sweat streams down her brow while the pain racks her body. The pain is worst then the monthly curse ever had been. Her heart races and can’t be calmed. The pain was deep within the muscles of her body as if they were reinventing themselves, shifting, elongating, and shortening, all of this at one time. The pain reached a crescendo that her mind couldn’t comprehend what was happening.

The air is cool upon her skin and damp from the morning dew. She opened her eyes to see that she lay upon grass under a large tree. Looking around she recognizes the trail that she had walked many times; it was located near to where she lived.

The fogginess of her mind gave way to a panic clarity. The coolness she felt on her skin was due to her being naked. Her hands were sticky and red with that old blood aroma that started a gag reflex down in her throat, more blood trailed down her body. With all this blood she know that it wasn’t hers. The extension of her belly is a sign of being sated which is another weirdness of the morning.

With an effort, she stands up and touches something that jingles. Reaching for it, she finds a dog collar with a nametag attached. “Oh my god!” she screams. It’s Cubby!. She ate her next-door neighbor”s dog.
