Christmas time is one of the greatest holidays ever for many. You get to spend time with your loved ones and receive unforgettable gifts every year. I myself enjoy Christmas time because it allows me to spend several days with the people I love the most. I would much rather give than get and for me it’s all about seeing them smile as they open their gifts. The joy that they have in turn gives me joy and makes the month of December that much better.
I’ll never forget the Christmas of 2007 because so much happened on that day. Every Christmas is great for me, but this was one unlike any other Christmas I had ever experienced. It all started off the night before Christmas. I was laying in bed getting ready to turn in like another other night when suddenly my phone rang. To my surprise it was my brother who I haven’t seen in a year! He was in the Army on assignment in Japan so I was sure he wouldn’t be able to celebrate Christmas with the family this year. Much to my dismay he said to me that he wouldn’t be able to make it this year. I was absolutely devastated. This would be the first Christmas that he wouldn’t be there and I was so depressed. We talked for a little while longer and I wished him a merry Christmas. So heading into Christmas i was pretty disappointed, but I decided to make the most of the situation. I was tossing and turning and for some reason could not seem to go to sleep. Then all of a sudden I hear a knock on the door. I open the door and standing in the doorway was none other than my brother Zach. I was ecstatic and immediately gave him a hug. He described how he wanted to play a joke in order to surprise me. Well sure enough I was surprised. This was an early Christmas present for me and one that I will never forge! It is times like these that you are so thankful for everything you have in your life. I am truly thankful and honored for what he does for our country along with all of the other service members that keep our country safe every day.
I slept so good that night knowing that my brother was there safe and sound, but Christmas was only going to get better. I was woken up by my two adorable nephews! They make the holidays so much better because they are so full of energy. They make me feel young again and it is truly a blessing to see them open up their presents. Well I was sure I wouldn’t see these two guys until later that day, but they arrived with my sister around 8:30. They burst in the door jumping and screaming and I couldn’t have woken up any better! My Christmas was already excellent and it was only going to get better because my favorite part was coming up; the part where everyone opens their gifts.
The saying it is better to give than to get is so true because there is nothing better than putting a smile on someone’s face. I love giving my family gifts and seeing their expression when they see what they got. This is what Christmas is all about. Every single one of my family members were so happy with their gifts. My mom was so thrilled with the jacket I got her. My brother almost jumped out of his chair when he saw the handgun I bought him. The nephews wouldn’t stop screaming about their new electric helicopters. My dad couldn’t have been happier with his new coffee maker. Everything went so perfect and this was truly one of the best Christmases I have ever been apart of! After the presents were opened we enjoyed one of the best meals I have ever had. There was turkey, dressing, rolls, ham, mashed potatoes, macaroni, and many delicious deserts. It was Thanksgiving all over again and I was truly blessed to have all of these things in my life.
Family, friends, food, and giving all make Christmas memorable for many around the world. The Christmas of 2007 was the best one I have ever had and I will never forget it. I will always remember the day when my brother and nephews surprised me and the look I saw on all of my family’s faces when they opened up their presents. To top it off there was plenty of excellent food that truly cemented this Christmas as being the best ever!
