Madonna, Lady Gaga, and Kim Kardashian — What Price Glory?

Fame is one thing, achieving it is another. Fans in the United States, as well as all over the world, pay homage to people who they feel have “made it.” The lack of true friends, life-long relationships, and personal lifetime commitments seem to plague celebrities who find themselves wrapped up in the trappings of sensationalism; this might represent the common denominator, or the price of glory, for those who aspire to such levels of fame.

Madonna Louise Ciccone, known simply as Madonna, came into the world in Bay City Michigan in 1958. She moved to the “Big Apple” in 1977 to follow a career of modern dance. Madonna performed in several music groups and recorded her first album, which proved successful, in 1983 and followed that with a long-term association with MTV. Her career blossomed and in addition to her movie roles and music tours the Guinness World Records association declared Madonna the world’s top-selling female artist of all time.

Lady Gaga, also known as Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta, has achieved the status of a successful money-maker. Born in 1968 in New York City, she attended the convent of the Sacred Heart and New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts. She became interested in New York’s rock music during 2007 and that spring-boarded her rise to stardom. Lady Gaga favors solitude in her private life but not to the extent that it takes away from time she spends with her charity work.

Kimberly Noel Kardashian, referred to as “Kim,” was born in Las Angeles California in 1980. In December of 2007 she posed, nude, for Playboy magazine. In February of 2008 she accepted several modeling offers and appeared with her mother and other family members in the TV “Keeping up with the Kardashians.” Retail sales drew her interest away from reality shows and Kardashian applied her skills to the cosmetics and fashion business. Married to Kris Humphries in August of 2011, she filed for divorce in October of the same year.
