Circumference: 38″

Materials:

· 2 SKEINS Chunky Yarn (Sample shown is Lion Brand Wool-ease Chunky in Charcoal) · Size 10 ½ (6.5mm) circular knitting needle · Size 13 (9 mm) circular knitting needle · Stitch Marker · Tapestry Needle

Gauge:

14 sts x 18 rows = 4″/10 cm square in Stockinette stitch on size 10 ½ (6.5mm) needles or size needed in order to obtain gauge. To save time, take the time to check your gauge.

Special Stitches:

Skp = slip one stitch, knit 1 st., pass slip stitch over knit st.

Leaves of Grass: (multiple 11 sts)

Row 1: (RS); * yo, skp, k9; rep from * to end

Row 2 & all alt rows: knit

Row 3: * k1, yo, skp, k8; rep from * to end

Row 5: * k2, yo, skp, k4, k2tog, yo, k1; rep from * to end

Row 7: * k3, yo, skp, k2, k2tog, yo, k2; rep from * to end

Row 9: * k6, k2tog, yo, k3; rep from * to end

Row 11: * k5, k2tog, yo, k4; rep from * to end

Row 12: knit

COWL:

(Note: Cowl is knitted in the round and when knitting in the round all rows are worked as RS rows. Place a marker to indicate where row beg/ends. Also be careful not to twist yarn.)

With size 10 ½ (6.5mm) circular needle, cast on 140 sts and work 2″ of k2, p1, rib. Next change to size 13 (9mm) circular needle; knit one row adding 3 sts evenly spaced around. Next work Leaves of Grass pattern until cowl measures 14″; then knit next row decreasing 3 sts evenly spaced around. Next change back to size 10 ½ (6.5mm) circular needle and work 2″ of k2, p1, rib; next bind off all sts in pattern; finally weave in all loose end.

Tie (Optional)

A tie may be add to this cowl; simple braid 3 strands of yarn for 54″; then braid through the 5 & 6 row of the ribbing going under the k2’s and over the p2.
