Kid Friendly Hair Feathers for Toddlers and Young Children

Hair feathers are a hair accessory that is stylish and extremely desirable for teenagers and young adults. Young children enjoy mimicking what they see but hair feathers attached to the hair, attached to a thin chain or beading string are not durable enough to withstand the abuse of hard play. Make a kid friendly version of adult hair feathers using seed beads and ribbon.

Things You’ll Need:

10-inches of ¼-inch wide satin ribbon

Hair clippie or barrette

Pony beads

Feathers

Optional – Hot glue gun and hot glue stick

Instructions:

Step 1 – Fold the ¼-inch ribbon in half to create a 4- and a 6-inch end. Tie a knot on the folded end approximately 1-inch from the loop.

Step 2 – String pony beads on the 6-inch length of ribbon until approximately 1 ½-inches remain on the bottom. Tie a knot around the last pony bead to secure in place.

Step 3 – Slide the end of the feather through the last four to six pony beads.

Step 4 – Repeat Steps 2 and 3 on the 4-inch piece of ribbon.

Step 5 – Optional – Gently slide the knotted pony bead and the next bead apart. Squeeze hot glue between the two beads. Press the beads together.

Step 6 – Slide the loop end of the ribbon around the center clip on the hair clippie or barrette.

Many hair clippies and barrettes have a void in the middle of the center portion of the clip. Secure the hair feather to the hair clippie or barrette by inserting the loop through the void. Place the opposite ends of the ribbon through the loop. Pull to tighten around the clip.
