I Don’t Celebrate My Birthday on Sept. 11 Anymore

Yahoo! is asking Americans how September 11 changed them. Below is an account from a reader.

I did not lose anyone on 9/11 nor did I know anyone who lost a loved one that day. But my birthday is on September 11th and I was horrified to wake up at my home in California to the news on the TV that day. I had taken the day off from work for my birthday and I ended up spending the whole day glued to my TV, in tears.

Since that day, I have chosen not to celebrate my birthday on the 11th. Instead, I do something quietly on either the 10th or the 12th. It is my way of honoring those who lost their lives that day to a group of what I consider rabid fanatics who have no respect for life or another person’s way of worshiping. I respect the Islamic faith and have no animosity for ANYONE because of their nationality. What I abhor is one person’s belief that God – in whatever form he presents himself – would approve of actions like this.

My heart and prayers go out to all those, across the world, who have lost their lives to this insanity.
