Hanging Satin Wedding Balls

When you shop at your local stores, and you want a bag of bows, good luck to you. Unless it’s approaching Christmas you’ll be hard-pressed to find those bows. But when you shop online you can find anything, any time of year. So, with your wedding coming up why not use those bows. Not for the packages – others will be buying those – but for your reception decorations. With satin or other bows you can make spectacular, hanging balls that quickly change any room into a beautiful reception area.

Many people make pomander balls for their weddings. The beautiful balls feature flowers of any color and are often hung from the ceilings, over tables and in other areas. When you make something similar with bows instead of flowers, you still have stunning wedding decorations, but yours are much less costly.

Peel-n-stick bows come in a huge variety of types and colors. You can use cheap bows – found in bags of Christmas package bows – or you can purchase much nicer ones – sold individually. No matter what type you use, a bow ball can be made in a matter of minutes. Start with a Styrofoam ball from a craft store to make the ball decoration you want. Remember that, when choosing a Styrofoam ball, the finished decoration will be much larger.

Making the bow ball doesn’t require a confusing tutorial. Simply peel the paper off of one bow, stick it to the ball, and continue adding them, until you’ve covered the entire ball. When you make neat rows of bows you’ll find it easier to cover the ball with no Styrofoam left showing. To add a hanger, just leave a small area uncovered, and poke a hole. Add hot glue to the hole, fold a piece of fishing twine in half, and put the ends in the hole. It’s a good idea to add a dot of hot glue to the bows, too, since the peel-n-stick paper is often not all that sticky.

You can create assorted looks by the way you decorate the balls and by how you hang them. Make bow balls which are all white, all a different color, or ones which feature two colors, like black and white. Make bow balls of all one size to create a look, but of assorted sizes to make a different arrangement. You can even position red or pink bows to make a heart shape on the ball, then fill the rest of the ball in with a different color of bows. No matter how you make them, they’re spectacular, and look fabulous over the dance floor, food tables, dining tables, and in bare corners.
