Halloween Cheese Spiders

It’s down to the wire and you still haven’t decided on the Halloween meal or treats yet? Well, you’d better get started on that right away. Let’s see, will the foods be delicious but repulsive, or simplistic and tasty? Will they be ordinary foods or recipes where you’ll be in the kitchen for hours? That last one isn’t sounding that desirable, is it? You have enough to do with putting up decorations, sending out invites, and otherwise getting everything ready for the party. Maybe you’re not even having a party. Maybe you’re just thinking of some Halloween-theme foods for your kids. No matter what the scenario, when it comes to Halloween, spiders fit right in with a frightening Holiday theme. Whether you’re feeding kids or adults, whether you’re having a party or just a family dinner, you’ll please everyone when you feed them spiders!

There are lots of different, edible spiders a person could create for a Halloween treat but none so easy as a cheese spider. You know those small, round cheese snacks that you can buy alongside other cheeses? These are the type which are round, and thick, and available in different types, from mozzarella to bleu cheese. The cheese had a wrapper you must peel off, and then a wax covering that must be removed, and after that, the cheese is easily turned into an edible spider.

Use pretzel sticks to make the legs for the spider. Snap one stick in half to make two legs. Insert the pretzel halves – four on each side – to make the legs. However, if you’re making granddaddy longlegs you can use whole pretzel sticks. It’s important that the sticks be fairly equal in length or the spider won’t stand properly.

Use an additional pretzel stick to poke two holes in the front of the cheese circle for eyes. Push a raisin into each hole to make the eyes for the spider.

Using the round cheese, you can make other spiders, too. Use thin carrot strips, or thin celery strips, to make a different type of spider. Instead of raisins, eyes can be made from chives, tiny nut pieces, or even dots of cream cheese.

The edible Halloween spiders look a little spooky but not horrendous. They’re great for any Halloween party, for a family meal, or just as a snack for yourself. They’re absolutely scrumptious and really easy to create.
