Gyeongju World Culture Expo: A Taste of the World

Experience all the wonder of world culture at the Gyeongju World Culture Expo. As the first cultural fair in the world, thousands gather from around the globe to share and experience the variety of cultures.

The expo includes several official events, performances, visual image shows, and exhibitions that expand over 20 different countries, along with an additional 100 individual events. With the wide variety of attractions, there is something in store for the whole family to enjoy.

Official events include the multi-media opening and closing ceremonies around the Gyeongju Tower, and the Culture Sharing Day for cities and countries. Performances include Theme Performances,Project Performances, World Dance Festivals, World Street Performances, Puppet Shows, Korea College Student Dance Festival, B-boy Festival, and Local Troupe Special Stage.

Exhibits include the Theme Exhibition, Kids Character Zone, World Folklore Puppet Exhibition, Planned Exhibition, and World Tradtional Culture Exhibition. Films include a 3-D animation film and Gyeongju Tower Multimedia Show.

There are also several accompained events, which include: World Buddhism Culture Festival, Silla Costume Experience, Making up Tower of Wish Paper, Making a Ghost Bridge, and Sending a Christmas Card with Love.

Additional special events are the World Flea Market and World Circus Show.

The expo takes place in Gyeongju of the North Gyeongsang Province in South Korea. The first expo took place from September 11 to November 10, 1998. The expo has been held in 2000, 2003, 2006, 2007, and 2011 since then. The expos have lasted for several days from as early as mid-August from as late as early January, depending on the year.

Tickets can be purchased in advance or in groups through the official website for a reduced cost. Those traveling to visit from overseas can easily attend the expo buy flying into any of the Incheon, Gimpo, Gimhae, or Daegu airports. From the airport buses are available to take you to Gyeongju. You may also take the train through KORAIL.
