Guest Room Decor Ideas

The guest room is an important space in home decor. It’s where guests come to relax, close their weary eyes and get a few winks. Of course, it’s also a space that should be decorated well to help them feel comfortable in the space. That means having the right combination of home accessories and decor. It also means that the little details, including all of the home accessories, must be perfect, as many people feel the guest room is an extension of their home that they would love for people to use time and time again.

Color Palette

When picking a color palette for your guest room, try to stay neutral and light. Think as though you were decorating a hotel and keep things neat, clean and depersonalized, almost spa-like. This typically creates the best feeling for guests, as they don’t feel they are invading a personal space but rather, have a space that was created for them to use while they are spending time there. Choose wall colors that are soft, such as creams or ivories, light grays or soft blues. Then pair withhome accessories that are equally neutral.

Furnitures

Even in a small room, it’s important to have the right furniture in the space. That means choosing furniture that don’t overwhelm the space by being too large, but also not choosing pieces that are too small for the space. Ideally, aside from the bed, you should also have a nightstand or two and a dresser for your guest to put their items in. Other furniture that could be included include a small seating area with an arm chair or chaise lounge and a desk; but only if you have the space for them.

Lighting

Having adequate lighting in a guest room is just as important as having adequate lighting throughout the rest of the home. Without proper lighting, home decor simply isn’t complete. Be sure to have plenty of lamps, an overhead light and some basic ambient lighting to help create a warm and inviting light scheme for your guest room.

Wall Decor

Wall decor in a home can quickly and easily become personal. That being said, people often want to find ways to incorporate wall art and wall decor in their guest room that is less personal, helping to make the space feel inviting or even hotel-like. This often means choosing wall art that might not necessarily make the cut in other rooms of their home.

A great option for wall decor is to use a collaboration of different mirrors: small oval mirrors, large sunburst mirrors, rectangular mirrors and so forth. Arrange them in a collage and viola, instant but not-quite-personalized wall art that’s sure to please and not offend your guests.

Other great options for wall art in a guest room include natural items, such as botanical prints or black and white photography of landscapes. Again, try not to overly personalize, which can make some guests feel unwelcome or intimidated.
