Green Bay Packers Prediction: Packers Remain Undefeated Against the Falcons

When this season started, I figured the Green Bay Packers would have to win early to keep pace with the Chicago Bears in the NFC North. And, even though they are 2-2, the Bears are still in it. What I wasn’t expecting was the Packers having to win each week to keep pace with the still undefeated Detroit Lions.

As you’ll see below, I’m predicting the Lions will win against the Bears this week so the Packers once again need to win to stay even with their divisional rival. Fortunately for them, I feel they will have no problem doing that.

When I first saw the Falcons on the schedule, I was a bit concerned about this game because Atlanta is a playoff team and will be playing at home. However, I’m not convinced the Falcons are the same team that made it to the post season last year. Matt Ryan still has a good arm. But, he was sacked 13 times in the first three games this season and, even though the Seattle Seahawks didn’t get a sack in Week 4, I’m not convinced those protection problems have been solved.

Green Bay’s defense has been giving up a lot of yards through the air. But, it is opportunistic and, when opposing quarterbacks are pressured, it does still come up with the turnovers. I think Ryan will be running for his life at times; especially since the improved run defense should keep Michael Turner in check. He may be able to still move the ball but, as the Packers have proven time and time again, moving the ball doesn’t necessarily mean putting points on the board.

On the other side of the ball, Aaron Rodgers and the Packers’ offense will be facing a team that has given up an average of 26.2 points per game (5th worst in the league) despite facing two teams ranked near the bottom of the league in scoring and only one team (the Philadelphia Eagles) ranked in the top 10.

Basically, I feel this game will be very similar to others the Packers have played so far this season. The Falcons might put up comparable yards through the air but won’t be able to keep up with Green Bay on the scoreboard.

Packers 35 – Falcons 24
