Great Feast of the Birds

“To birds of prey, birds of every sort of wing… I will give you for food.”

Ignorance has taken us as far as we could go.

Crows and ravens pick and poke.

Left dead and bloodied on the side of the road.

An SUV rusts around its plastic parts.

Grey skies extend over the barren flooded city.

Vultures circle patiently above the dogs.

Dusty plains devoid of prairie grass.

Buffet of strewn carcasses.

Like salmon after the spawn.

Eagles and osprey scour the beaches.

Shredded flesh and bones no bibs or utensils.

Acrid air and stagnant water settle.

Jays and kestrels feast on fingers and maggots.

“I shall bring to ruin those ruining the earth.”
