Grambling Alumni Re-Connect

The Windy City Chapter of the Grambling State University Alumni Association held its second “Let’s Re-Connect” Scholarship Fund Raiser and Membership Drive on Sunday, September 18, 2011 from 1:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M. at the Harambee House in Chicago, Illinois.

The keynote speaker was Attorney Theodore London, who gave an engaging, informative presentation on Land Trusts. Based on the many questions from the audience, the speech was well received. Attorney London was presented with a large and attractive, wood-framed photograph of Legendary Grambling Football Coach Eddie G. Robinson.

LeBlanc Martin, President of the Windy City Chapter, gave an overview of Grambling, pointing out that enrollment this year is at a record high of 5,207 students. Mr. Fred Hearn, Business Manager, gave an appeal for on-going support of the University.

Verna Gray-Jones, Financial Secretary of the Windy City Chapter, introduced her special guest, Ms. Brittney M. Brown. Ms. Brown, who recently received her Degree in Communications from Grambling, is on the Cover of the 2010-2011 Grambling School Calendar. In speaking with Ms. Brown, she informed me that as the reigning Ms. Calendar Girl, her responsibility is to represent Grambling University.

And based on the time I spent “interviewing” her, (even though she didn’t know she was being interviewed as we casually chatted at her dinner table), I found Ms. Brown to be an articulate, sharp young lady who represents Grambling very well.

The successful event concluded with all attendees singing the Grambling Alma Mater song “Oh Grambling, Dear Grambling, We Love Thee Dear Old Grambling!”
