Gourmandise: A Taste of Europe in Salt Lake City

Gourmandise The Bakery is one of my absolute favorite restaurants in Salt Lake City, Utah. I just went there this last weekend and I was not disappointed. I have actually been going to Gourmandise for years. And to tell the truth I can’t remember ever being disappointed.

I had a half order of the Chicken Cobb Salad ($6.45), without the blue cheese crumbles (sorry not a fan), and Greek vinaigrette. The lettuce was crisp and fresh, with egg, cucumber, tomatoes, cheese, and chicken on top, it was a bowl of perfection. The Greek vinaigrette was light and crisp matching the salad exquisitely. Some vinaigrette’s can have to much vinegar, becoming powerful and bitter, this however was not the case. The salad also comes with a hard roll, one of my favorite parts.

My boyfriend accompanied me on my delve into Europe having the Grilled Chicken Pesto sandwich ($7.95). It was served on chibatta bread, with grilled chicken, basil pesto sauce, fresh spinach, and tomatoes. Served with a pickle slice and freshly made potato chips. The bread was so soft and delicious. The pesto sauce wasn’t too strong, just right. The chicken was juicy and flavor full. The spinach was crisp and fresh. The sandwich was amazing!!! I probably ate half of his sandwich along with my salad! It was that good. It was also my boyfriends first time there and agrees that anytime we’re in Salt Lake we have to eat at Gourmandise.

For desert we got an order of Little Brothers ($3.45), an all time classic in my book, and a Porcupine($5.95), which is one of my favorites. The Little Brothers are like cream puffs with eclair filling and chocolate on top. They are mouth-watering, savory little delectables. The Porcupine is layered (from bottom to top) with chocolate cake, eclair cream, raspberry jam, and chocolate mousse. The entire desert is shaped like a porcupine, with slivers of almonds pushed into the top (for spikes) and coated in chocolate. They even put eyes on it. The Porcupine is as cute as it is delicious.

If you ever find yourself in Salt Lake City, Utah wondering where to eat….Go to Gourmandise The Bakery at 250 South 300 East. Expand your taste-buds and get a little feel of Europe. The atmosphere at Gourmandise is just as great as the food. The servers are nice and very informative. The food is fresh and delicious, all of the bread is made there daily. The prices are good on the food and a little pricy on the desert, but the desert is Well Worth It!!!! I give Gourmandise 5 out of 5 stars.
