Go Behind the Scenes with the Secret Service in ‘Attracted to Fire’ by DiAnn Mills – Book Review

The Secret Service takes center stage in DiAnn Mills’ thriller, “Attracted to Fire.” That mysterious organization charged with protecting presidents and vice presidents displays a human side with Special Agent Meghan Connors and her coworkers.

Connors is part of a team assigned to protect the vice president’s wild and rowdy daughter at a remote ranch in Texas. The Special Agent in Charge, Ash Zinders, distrusts female agents and makes no secret of the fact. Add to the mix a couple of independent and opinionated civilians on the ranch, threats against the girl they are meant to protect and the fact that both Connors and Zinders are in consideration for assignment to a single position on the presidential detail and you have a recipe for trouble.

The situation intensifies when the Vice President moves into the Oval Office following the President’s resignation. The threats increase and the danger to everyone at the ranch intensifies. Connors and Zinders must work together to solve the deepening mystery while handling their growing mutual attraction. Texas was never hotter than this!

Mills excels at weaving a story as artfully as a tapestry, full of color and texture. This book is no exception. The Texas dust and intense emotions fill the reader’s senses as the story unfolds. We come to understand a bit of the commitment necessary for an agent to be willing to die protecting someone he or she might not even like.

The book looks at how people react to danger, how gradually they can be coerced into believing something untrue and how easily dynamics can shift when trust is gained or lost. The Christian undertone of the story keeps things on a level that makes the book a pleasure to read. The characters are imperfect, but not sleazy.

I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a tight adventure story, a story with a strong female lead or simply a book that doesn’t make you blush. The book is all of those things and more. It’s worth the read.
