Five Unusual Ways to Use Mouthwash when Cleaning

Have you ever clean your kitchen with mouthwash or used it to get rid of dandruff? These are just some of the wacky and unusual ways mouthwash can be used when cleaning your home.

It can be used to kill kitchen germs.
If you’re on a tight budget or run out of cleaning supplies, use mouthwash to kill germs. When I was a college student, I would use mouthwash to clean my kitchen since it was usually the only household product I had on hand. Surprisingly, it works great. Just wipe down your sink and handles with a old rag or towel dipped in mouthwash. It will kill germs and add a nice shine to your sink.

Clean your toilet bowl.
Mouthwash is also a great alternative to toilet bowl cleaner. Pour some mouthwash in the toilet and let it sit for about an hour. Then swish it around with a toilet brush to clean the bowl. When you run out of toilet bowl cleaner, mouthwash is the next best thing.

Get rid of pesky dandruff.
Another wacky way you can use mouthwash is to get rid of dandruff. After shampooing your hair, rinse it with mixture of mouthwash and water. Work it into your hair and scalp, then rinse with water. It works like magic and it wont leave your hair smelling like mouthwash.

Banish strong cooking odors.
Cooking with garlic and onions can leave hands with strong odors that even soap cant remove. So what I like to do is dip a paper towel in mouthwash and rub it over my hands. It sounds weird but it’s the only way I’ve found to get rid of stinky odors. I would suggest keeping a small bottle of mouthwash under the kitchen sink, so you can just grab it when you need it.

Keep cut flowers fresh.
An old-school trick to keeping flowers fresh is adding a tablespoon of mouthwash to a gallon of water, then pour the mixture in a vase. It helps cut flowers last longer since the mouthwash kills the bacteria that causes them to fade. I’ve tried everything from adding aspirin to a copper penny and mouthwash has been the best solution so far.

Mouthwash is a great product to use when cleaning because its great at killing germs and adding shine. If you’re on a budget or don’t want to use chemicals that could contain harmful ingredients, mouthwash is definitely a great alternative to use.
