Five Rock Songs that Florence and the Machine Should Cover

Florence Welch of Florence and the Machine has an overwhelming catalog of brilliant songs that exude individuality, poetic beauty and talent. Florence and the Machine also has performed a number of cover songs that have improved upon the original song. Here is a look at five more songs that Florence and the Machine should consider covering, and why these songs will be left much improved.

“November Rain” by Guns ‘N Roses

An ’80s rock ballad of epic proportions that is begging to be covered by the ginger haired performer is Guns ‘N Roses’ “November Rain.” The ’80s version was haunting and beautiful, and Florence and the Machine will only add to the song’s mystique. Because of her uncanny ability to reflect a song’s darkness and beauty in the same breath, Florence and the Machine will turn “November Rain” into an autumn hurricane of sorts.

“For Whom the Bell Tolls” by Metallica

A song with a stunning, ominous tone is “For Whom the Bell Tolls,” by ’80s metal gods, Metallica. Florence and the Machine has a certain talent for creating magic when a song’s tone is dark. Florence and the Machine’s brand of darkness isn’t depressing or morose; it is intriguing. Florence and the Machine would ignite a firestorm of energy if she took on “For Whom the Bell Tolls.”

“Rebel Yell” by Billy Idol

Another song that I am dying to see Florence and the Machine perform is Billy Idol’s hit “Rebel Yell.” The upbeat tempo, the raw vocals and the sexy vibe would be perfect for Florence Welch’s voice. A Florence and the Machine cover of “Rebel Yell” would be edgy and vibrant.

“Love is a Battlefield” by Joan Jett

“Love is a Battlefield” was originally performed by one of the best female rockers of the 20th century: Pat Benatar. A Florence and the Machine cover would not discredit Benatar, but pay homage to her. I’d be interested to see Welch’s take on the ’80s hit. One thing is certain: Welch’s version would sound nothing like the ’80s song we know.

“Crazy Train” by Ozzy Osbourne

Of all the songs I’d like Florence and the Machine to cover, Ozzy Osbourne’s “Crazy Train” takes the cake. I’m dying to hear Florence mimic Ozzy’s death rattling howl at the peak of the song. Florence and the Machine’s take on “Crazy Train” could gain her some serious fans in the form of devout metal heads.
