Five of the Most Powerful Florence and the Machine Songs to Date

Florence Welch of Florence and the Machine has one of the most powerful and ethereal voices in the music industry today. Her songs are breathtaking, unique and poetic, and have captured the hearts of fans around the world. Here is a look at six of her most powerful songs to date from the perspective of a diehard Florence and the Machine fan.

“Heavy in Your Arms”

A song that has never made a Florence and the Machine album is “Heavy in Your Arms.” This is quite possibly the darkest song that Florence and the Machine has ever released, and it is performed wonderfully. Dark lyrics and tremendous vocals make this one of my favorite Florence and the Machine songs to date. “Heavy in your Arms” was included on the Twilight Saga “Eclipse” soundtrack and rolled during the end-credits of the movie.

“Blinding”

Another song by Florence and the Machine that enthralls the senses is “Blinding.” Combine the sound of a harp, drums and various instruments, along with the beauty of Florence Welch’s voice, and you have a gorgeous song. Add in dark and mysterious lyrics, and you’ve got one hell of a song. “Blinding” never gets old, and is so intricately weaved that I recognize something new every time.

“Howl”

“Howl” is a song that never fails to amaze me. The song starts out with the banging of a drum, a siren call if you will, and the song explodes with passion and yearning. “Howl” is sexy and well written with lyrics such as “If you could only see the beast you made of me, I held it in but now it seems you’ve set it running free. Screaming in the dark, I howl when we’re apart. Drag my teeth across your chest to feel your beating heart.” The song “Howl” is simply amazing.

“Cosmic Love”

One of Florence’s most powerful songs comes in the form of “Cosmic Love.” The song builds up to such an intensity that after singing along and dancing to “Cosmic Love,” I need to take a break. The song absolutely takes everything out of me after listening. “Cosmic Love is nothing short of brilliant. Once you’ve listened to the song, check out the video. The director of her official music video deserves serious recognition.

“Bird Song”

I give serious props to anyone who has heard “Bird Song” prior to reading this article. “Bird Song” has not appeared on any of Florence and the Machine’s albums, but it has been floating around the internet for some time. “Bird Song” is stunning, creative, powerful and seriously dark.
