Dying is just like taxes in the respect that it is going to happen to you and me. Over history, we realize it doesn’t matter who you are, you are going to face death. Famous people have no secret weapon against death. They are just like you and I. They will die. We will die. Death is a part of life. However, many of us look forward to eternal life in Heaven. After we all pass from this world, I hope to meet each one of you in a better place called Heaven.

What Happened Today in History?

1891 The first gasoline-powered American car debuts in Springfield, Massachusetts, United States.

1942 Holocaust in Letychiv, Ukraine. In the course of two days the German SS murders at least 3,000 Jews

1971 Having weakened after making landfall in Nicaragua the previous day, Hurricane Irene regains enough strength to be rebranded Hurricane Olivia, making it the first known hurricane to successfully cross from the Atlantic Ocean into the Pacific.

1973 Billie Jean King beats Bobby Riggs in The Battle of the Sexes tennis match at the Houston Astrodome in Houston, Texas

1984 A suicide bomber in a car attacks the U.S. embassy in Beirut, Lebanon, killing twenty-two people.

2008 A dump truck full of explosives detonates in front of the Marriott hotel in Islamabad, Pakistan, killing 54 people and injuring 266 others.

1785-1863 Jacob Grimm was a German writer and folklorist and one of the Brothers Grimm, as the editor of Grimm’s Fairy Tales

1856-1932 Wovoka who was also known as Jack Wilson, was the Northern Paiute religious leader who founded the Ghost Dance Movement. Wovoka means “cutter” or “wood cutter” in the Northern Paiute language

1884-1945 William Buehler Seabrook, American occultist who tasted human flesh in a stew

1943-1973 Jim Croce, American singer and songwriter- “Bad, Bad Leroy Brown” and “Time in a Bottle”

1905-1994 Jule Styne, American songwriter for Broadway Musicals, “Diamonds Are a Girl’s Best Friend”, “Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!”, “How Do You Speak To An Angel” etc.

1923-2003 Gordon Mitchell, American actor and bodybuilder

1908-2005 Simon Wiesenthal, Austrian Nazi hunter

1933-2010 Leonard Skinner, American high school gym teacher; namesake of rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd
