Extend Your Clothing Sizes with Brass Rings

Don’t you hate it when you go to try on something you haven’t worn in awhile, and you find out it doesn’t fit anymore? It’s not all that hard to enlarge certain clothing, especially if you do so with brass rings. You can easily make things like panties, bras, and bathing suits, fit you once again, when you use brass rings. The rings themselves are not at all costly so enlarging some of your garments proves a good choice.

You can find various sizes of brass rings at most any craft store. From key ring types, to larger versions, the brass rings are ideal for extending the life of your too-small clothing.

One thing you can quickly make larger is a pair of panties. Cut on each side of each side seam to remove the seam itself, completely. Put one of the cut ends through one ring then lay it on the fabric of the panty. Sew straight across. Take the other cut end, thread it through the ring, then sew it down. The ring, depending on how large it is, can make the garment two to six inches larger than it was.

You can enlarge a bra using basically the same technique. Cut an area on each side of the bra, then thread the cut ends through the ring, and sew them down. Another way to install a ring in the bra is to do so at the front. This is possible only with certain bras. Cut straight down the center of the bra, then put the cut ends through the ring, and sew them down. Or, sew a small tab onto each cut end, then use the tabs to clasp the brass ring.

Make a shirt longer, and enlarge the sleeves and shoulders at the same time, by using several brass rings. Lay the shirt out flat on a table and cut up both sleeves, from the neckline, down to the hem or cuff of the shirt. Use binding or another material to create small tabs, down the length of both cut sides, on each sleeve. Hem the cut sides, and sew over the tabs at the same time, spacing them evenly apart. Use the tabs to attach the rings up the sleeves, all the way to the neck area.

Another way to use the rings for a shirt will help you create a whole new look. Lay the shirt out flat and cut from one underarm area to the other. Hem each cut edge. Install the tiny tabs – as mentioned above – and use them to attach rings that go all the way around the top of the shirt. This design offers a daring reveal across the upper chest and back.

You can use the brass ring method to enlarge underwear, bras, two-piece bathing suits, and more. With little sewing effort you can install the easy-to-do rings that guarantee you’ll wear your garments just a little bit longer.
