Everything Starts with an Idea

One of my favorite movies which came out in 2010 was Inception starring Leonardo DiCaprio. Doesn’t it seem like Leo is always having bad luck with women in his movies? But anyway, personally, I always enjoy movies which have some sort of a message to them and make viewers think about what they just saw. I truly believe a lot of messages are hidden within movies and if you are a person who is skilled at critical thinking, many times you can catch those messages. This was definitely one of those kind of movies. Without giving a synopsis of the whole film, the gist of the movie was about the fact that a simple idea can be a powerful thing which can change the course of not only a person’s life but also the way society is as a whole. I for one believe that this notion holds very true to how life really is, especially when it comes to business and societal structure.

When you really think about it, the only reason why we drive cars which look the way they do, why we live in houses which are designed the way they are, why we do what we do at our job and the way we work, why we shop at Walmart, or why we eat fast food from McDonalds is because someone came up with the idea first. Someone designed these things before they became a reality. Ideas have shaped the way our society is, positively and negatively. Some companies and products have affected society in negative ways. One such example is the fast food industry which has played a major role in the unhealthy eating habits as well as adverse health affects which many people are battling today.

A lot of times, we as people, when we think in the role of consumers, have the tendency to think things were always just ‘there.’ This is because we are much too busy concentrating on what we wish to spend our money on, and we don’t necessarily think about the overall big picture and how we play a role in that picture. Big corporations are nothing without the masses of people that support them. Everyone has always heard the saying that ‘the mind is a terrible thing to waste.’ If you don’t learn how to control your mind, it’s true that someone else can and will probably try to do it for you. Things like subliminal messages and propaganda have been put in commercials and advertisements to entice people to spend money, shape how we think, and affect our destiny by manipulating our minds. The one thing that separates us from animals is the fact that we have God-given ability to create things and come up with ideas. Potentially successful ideas are worth incredible sums of money by way of franchises, tradesecrets, business plans, etc. Even joseph stalin the communist said that ideas are more dangerous than guns. Just something to think about.
