Easy DIY Body Cream Shea Butter Recipe

The best moisturizers aren’t necessarily the most expensive, and if you love knowing exactly what you’re using on your skin, and don’t mind messing up your kitchen a bit, then this DIY body cream recipe is for you.

I’ve made custom skin care products for years, and everyone always asks what I use, so here’s one recipe from my repertoire you’ll love. It’s easy to make, has all natural ingredients that are easy to get, and better yet, it works wonders for any type of skin.

Here’s a fabulous recipe for one of the most luxurious body creams you’ll ever use, and it’s just as simple to make. It works wonders in the winter months for dry, cracked elbows, knees, and feet.

Shea Butter, from the nut of the African shea tree (Vitellaria paradoxa), improves skin tone, absorbs quickly, and revitalizes skin with vitamins A, E & F while moisturizing, and even has healing properties.

Ingredients:

5 oz. shea butter (60%) 3 oz. Fixed Oils (40%) (your choice, such as; grapeseed, sweet almond oil , avocado, soy, olive, etc.) 1 tsp. cornstarch .25 oz. fragrance or 70- 80 drops of essential oils (or body safe fragrances) 1-2 caplets of Vitamin E

note–5ml = 1/6 oz. or 100 – 125 drops depending on viscosity

Directions:

Place butter and fixed oils in a 4 cup Pyrex glass measuring cup. Get a pan 1/2 filled with water to use as a double boiler to melt butter and oils together. Remove from heat, stir in cornstarch (and fragrance if you’re using that…if you’re using essential oils, wait until the end to stir them in so you don’t lose potency by heating), and place Pyrex into an ice-bath in a large bowl with ice. Whip to a frosting like consistency with a stick blender. This will take a bit for the ice to get the cream cold enough to look right, but keep blending. You can also stick it in the freezer, but I like the ice bath method…it seems faster. After you get the right consistency, stir in your essential oils and Vitamin E. Voila! You have a gorgeous body cream that your skin will love. Use within 6 months as there are no preservatives in this recipe.
