Decorating Colors that Help Sell Your Home

Are you trying to sell your home? Did you know the colors in your home matter when it comes to a sale? Check out these tips for decorating colors that help sell your home. With just a little bit of paint, you could get your house sold. Let me show you how.

In a slow economy, it can be really tough to sell a home. Today there are so many houses on the market and people willing to lower their prices to practically nothing – not to mention all of the short sales. So, needless to say, you need an edge when it comes to selling your home and the first thing you’ll want to do is evaluate the colors inside and out.

• Neutral Walls

When it comes time to sell, what you really need to understand is that most buyers don’t have a lot of decorating savvy. They can’t see past what the home currently looks like. When it comes to the walls, that can be a big problem – especially if you’ve painted yours with strong colors.

That deep purple color you have in your living room may go perfectly with your custom-covered sofa; however, for a perspective home buyer, it could be death to the sale. Never mind that all they would have to do is paint it; most buyers don’t think that way. When a buyer walks into your home, they’re trying to picture their furniture and their possessions in your home. They also come equipped with a set of “likes” and “dislikes” that you need to work around. If they can’t picture their brown sofa with your purple walls or if they flat out hate the color purple, they may not go a step further or they may even turn around and bolt.

That is why it’s so important to have a neutral color on your walls when you offer your home for sale. Clean shades of white work well with any decor and most buyers won’t protest them. Soft shades of tan are also considered neutral. Either color would be a safe bet when prepping your home for buyer traffic.

• White Trim

If you can’t change the wall color for some reason, then the next best thing to do is change the trim paint. You can brighten up any room by simply painting the trim around windows, doors or other fixtures with a clean white paint.

• Red Doors

Believe it or not, although it is a strong color, most real estate professionals will tell you nothing attracts buyers to a front door like the color red. Although it may seem contrary to the advice given for the interior of the home, a red door gets buyers in the door and that’s exactly what you want. So grab a paint brush and a small can of red paint and make your front door an invitation to a potential sale.
