Dallas Cowboy’s Fan Season Journal Entry #1

TURN ON THE LIGHTS, THE PARTY IS STARTING(imagine Don Meredith’s voice here). It has been along hot summer, I am ready for some cooler weather and some football. Like every other season since Clint Murchison brought a team to Dallas, I can’t wait for my team to go to the Superbowl. Last year was a disaster, with Tony Rome getting crushed to the turf, hard enough to break a collar bone, and Wade getting fired, in the shadow of our new stadium. If you have not been out to the Bosshog Bowl,(that is what we call it here), you should, it is amazing. Lots of things can be said about Jerry Jones, but one thing is for sure, he is a business man, and he can get things done. He also has three Superbowls under his watch, shove that up your Eagle and Redskin.
Just like every other season, my expectations are high, we are going to lose a few, but mostly we are kicking butts and taking names. I am thinking ten plus wins, at least one each over the Giants, Eagles, and twice of the Deadskins. This year is going to be exciting, Dez is going to have the year we were looking for last year, Tony is back, Witten is, well Witten, and my breakout player of the year is FELIX JONES. The Defense will be better, mainly because it can’t be much worse. They quit on Wade, we all saw it, we all knew it, to bad such a nice guy had to get fired for other people’s lack of effort. But, that was last year and we are moving on, Ware and the boys are going to take it up a notch and prove their wares this year.
Now for Game 1, September 11th in New York, against the New York Jets. What better way for the season to start than America’s Team, playing on America’s Day, in America’s City, honoring America’s fallen heroes, from that tragic day 10 years ago. The NFL, is doing a great thing, putting the city on display for all to see, while at the same time sending the Giants to play in our nation’s capital, honoring those who died there. Sometimes, the billionare owners do get it right, this time they have.
The game itself, the forecast is for a chance of thunderstorms, how fitting is that? A dark, possibly glooming sky, broken by the bright lights of a stadium full of football fans. Even in our countries darkest moments, life goes on, people find hope. Maybe this game is that for some people, maybe they move on, but they will never forget.
New York is a running team and I expect alot of that, grind it out football. Sanchez will probably make some good throws to Plexico, and the Cowboys will have trouble at corner. Greene and LT, will each score and the Jets will probably go in at the half with a small lead. Emotion does alot for teams, and the Jets will be riding high in the beginning. Dallas will need to really protect the ball early, and Romo could see the ground early and often with that young offensive line. If the Jets can get a turnover early and turn it into seven points, this could get ugly.
Romo to Witten, you will hear that more than once on the first Cowboy drive. Dez will have a better chance than Miles Austin of being a difference maker in this one, due to coverage. The DRAW, that is where Dallas will have to turn, the Jets blitz, if they breathe, they blitz. Jones will need to take advantage of that, if he can, he will be in behind the linebackers and fifteen to twenty yards runs could be the result. The kicking game has to come through, the Jets are capable of clogging up the red zone, so the shanks from pre-season need to go right down the middle. Dallas could have three field goals in this game. In the end I think Dallas with grind it out, and win late, coming from behind, 23 to 20.
I wonder if the Ryan Boys will meet at the middle of the field after the game, they both say some good stuff after losing, this may be the play of the game.
