Clay Pot Wedding Candle Centerpiece

As you’re getting everything ready for the wedding and reception, you’ll have lots to do, and lots to think about, when it comes to choosing the things you’ll need. A bride has to make so many choices concerning a cake, the gown, the colors, and the foods. Why not make the decorations easy on yourself? Go out to the shed, get some of those old clay pots, and your table centerpieces and decorations will be almost finished.

Clay pots work well as the decorations for a country wedding, a casual affair, or even a whimsical wedding. You can spend the time to paint the pots to match or coordinate with the wedding colors or you can just clean them up a bit and use them as-is. That’s even better for some wedding schemes.

Use green florist Styrofoam to fill the bottom of the pot. It’s necessary to first wet the foam in order to get it to conform to the shape you need it. Wet it well, allow the excess water to drain off, then place the Styrofoam in the pot.

Choose a pillar candle for the clay pot. The candle can be nearly the size of the pot itself or even smaller. Set the candle in the pot and twist it back and forth to create a shape in the Styrofoam beneath it. This will make a stand for the candle to keep it from tilting.

Fill the pot in, around the edges, to cover the bottom area of the candle, and to create more interest. Use eucalyptus berries and viburnum or create your own arrangement. Keep in mind that using dried flowers can be a fire hazard. Push the stems of the flowers into the wet Styrofoam, all the way around the candle. Allow some to come up and over the pot for a very pretty look.

Clay pot candle centerpieces are charming and very easy to make. You can use a large one for the centerpiece of the main table, and smaller versions for other tables, or just use small arrangements to make place cards which are also party favors.

If you don’t happen to have a bunch of clay pots you can just run down to your nearest craft store. They sell a huge variety of them and they’re not expensive. Wait until the day before the wedding to make the clay pot candles. They’ll add appeal and beauty to the surroundings at any wedding.
