Christmas Craft: Candy Airplanes

Candy Airplanes are very easy to make and are perfect for putting up on your Christmas tree. Even small children can participate in this craft, my son is three and he made his own with just a little bit of help. It is also quick and not very messy.

What you will need per airplane:

1 stick of gum still in the wrapper for the wings

2 individual Life Savers for the wheels

1 package of Smarties (leave in wrapper) for the body of the plane

1 small rubber band

Now that you have all of your materials, it’s time to put your candy airplane together.

Take the two Life Savers and hold them together. Then squeeze the rubber band through the holes of the Life Savers until you can grasp it on each end.

After you have the rubber band situated, get the stick of gum and wrap the ends of the rubber band around the gum and then wedge the package of Smarties in-between the Life Savers and the gum so that one end (the front) is short and the other end is a bit longer. After you finish that last step, you are done!

You may have to situate the gum a little bit and make sure that it’s laying flat on top. The gum tends to bend over while you’re getting it through the rubber bands.

I really like this craft because it is really hard to find crafts that smaller children can participate in. Most crafts are too complicated or messy and little kids have a hard time keeping up when there is one adult and several kids.

After you finish all your candy airplanes you can either set them carefully on the branches of your Christmas tree or add them to a shelf with other Christmas decorations.
