Choosing Makeup for Certain Hair Colors

Your hair color enhances you overall look, and whether you have brunette, red or blonde hair there are plenty of cosmetic options to help you look fabulous. While the hair, eye and skin color all comes into play when you are choosing your cosmetics, there are many shades that enhance particular hair colors. Here are a few color combinations you can try at any point in the year:

Brunette – Chocolate brown hair is flattering to every skin tone and eye color, so there are many choices you can make when it comes to cosmetics. For a bold punch of color, try an orange-red lipstick, such as Smashbox Be Legendary Lipstick in Mandarin. Darker hair is complemented with brighter cosmetic shades, so don’t be afraid to step outside of the box and use bold, vibrant colors.

Frame the eyes by penciling in the eyebrows to create a bold look for your face. Look for a creamy pencil, such as Laura Mercier and apply short, feathery strokes to the brows for a natural look. Shimmery eyeshadow palettes accentuate and enhance the eye, so look for a palette such as the HIP Crystal Shadow in gold and brown.

Blonde – Blondes have plenty of options, but it is important to choose the proper colors to avoid looking washed out. Instead of blush, a sheer bronzer can add a golden hue to the skin – just don’t add too much or it will look streaky. For sheer coverage, use a product such as Sun Beam by Benefit, which is a liquid bronzer that easily blends into skin.

Accentuate eyes with black mascara, which will contrast with the light hair color and frame the eyes. One product to try is Urban Decay Big Fatty Mascara. Neutral eyeshadow palettes complement blonde hair and respective eye colors.

Red – Those with red hair usually have lighter skin and eyes, so vibrant colors like green and purple stand out against beautiful pale skin. Neutral shades don’t stand out as much, but can be used to create a natural, everyday look. Try lining the eyes with vibrant eyeliner, such as Nano Eyeliner by Sephora Collection in Emerald Green or Azur Blue.

Sheer coral or peach lip colors complement the skin, but still add a touch of color to the look.

No matter what color hair or skin you have, there are plenty of options to complement your beautiful features and hair. Experiment with bold or neutral shades, depending on your skin and hair colors, to find shades that suit you best.
