Celebrate Christmas in Boston: Trees, Carols and Concerts

If you haven’t experienced these Boston Christmas favorites, make time in your holiday party schedule to enjoy one or more of these seasonal traditions. Most of the events on this list have an entrance fee. Please be sure to check the websites listed for the most up to date details and fees.

Faneuil Hall Tree Lighting – Boston, MA on November 19, 2011

Say hello to Santa, singing and lots of food options. Location: Quincy Market Colonnade.

Time: starting at 11 am, there’s live holiday music;. Starting at 5 pm, there’s a countdown to the lighting of 300,000 lights covering buildings and trees of Faneuil Hall Marketplace. Cost: Free. Information: 617-523-1300.

Candlelight Carols – December 17 – 18, 2011

From the Candlelight Carols website, “Suggested donation, $10 You’ll have to arrive early to snag a good spot, but this event at Trinity Church is sure to leave you humming in the spirit of the season. On Saturday, the earlier event is a fund-raiser for the Candlelight Carols Benefit, and tickets come in tiers of $35, $65, and $100. Childcare for children 4 years old and younger will be available by reservation. Doors open one hour before show time.” Use public transportation to get there. Metered street parking or local garages are available.

A Christmas Celtic Sojourn

At the Cutler Majestic Theatre at Emerson College, A Christmas Celtic Sojourn is an evening of delightful Celtic song and story-telling. In it’s ninth year, other venues and times for “A Christmas Celtic Sojourn” are available. The Boston dates are:

Friday, Dec. 16, 8 pm, Saturday, Dec. 17, 3 pm and 8 pm, and Sunday, Dec. 18, 1 pm and 5 pm

Tickets: $25 -$75

Holiday lights are always a crowd pleaser. Here are a variety of places to visit around the metro area.

ZooLights at Stone Zoo — Stoneham, MA – November 24, 2011 to January 1, 2012
Special evenings to spend with family and friends enjoying the Zoo lit up for the holidays. Location: 149 Pond Street.Time: 5 – 9 pm. Information: www.stonezoo.org or call 781-438-5100.

Festival of Trees Methuen — Methuen, MANovember 19, 2011 to December 3, 2011
Come and see hundreds of decorated Christmas trees that will be raffled off at the end of the Festival. Location: Valley Office Park, 13 Branch Street. Time: Weekdays, 5 – 9 pm; weekends, 10 am to 9 pm. Cost: General, $8; children under age 12 admitted free. Information: www.methuenfestivaloftrees.com or call 978-685-8878. Closed Thanksgiving.
