Can Pop Artist, LiiLa Rox Seduce Hip Hop Fans?

February 28, 2012 — On Tuesday evening, my Twitter timeline exploded with comments about LiiLa Rox’s Kirko Bangz remix. AND hip hop fans seemed to actually like it–a lot.

“LiiLa Rox…Isn’t that a dance/electonica artist?” I thought to myself.

To be honest, I had only heard one LiiLa Rox song, “Roxy,” released late last year. But I was sure I knew the name, and the futuristic look, typical of dance artists, complete with the white “mod” wig.

There was no way, the (virtual) streets were this excited about a pop artist. But to my pleasant surprise, the remix of the Texas rapper’s “Drank in My Cup” was deserving of the buzz. In fact, DMVixen.com commented that the LiiLa Rox’s version may be better than the original.

The song, while less than 2 minutes long (likely to encourage DJs mixes), is extra raunchy, even for a true hip hop fan. She keeps the no-string-attached sexual theme of the original Kirko Bangz version, with a shockingly feminine twist.

Unlike a rapper, LiiLa Rox sings her response in the remix, with vocals that are sexy and harmonious. The lyrics are all original and spotlight LiiLa’s writing ability and extreme imagination. She takes the point of view of a stripper or exotic dancer and even refers to her lady part as a lockbox!
