“Breaking Dawn: Part 1″ Premier Review

“Breaking Dawn: Part 1″ just hit the theaters for a midnight viewing where I live. So to see what all the fuss was about I decided I would go watch it. I have seen the first three films in the adolescent-based saga and have not been too impressed. I think I have an issue with vampires being sparkly or maybe I am just set in my old-school, blood-sucking ways.

Bella Swan and Edward Cullen are all grown up in this highly anticipated film. In the first few scenes you quickly realize that the young necrophobiac, Bella Swan, is more mature than in the previous films. Despite her strange obsession with dogs and dead things, I kept my hopes high that this film wouldn’t be a waste of $7.50.

As the wedding unfolds I found myself actually being happy for the young odd-couple. The wedding scenes were well-shot and visually stunning. Without giving away too many details: Bella Swan, who is usually as average-looking as it gets, transforms into a gorgeous young woman. I never realized how pretty the actress, Kristen Stewart, really is.

Jumping to the honeymoon, Bella and Edward reach their suite and decide on taking a late-night skinny dip in the pool. Sadly, there seems to be no real sex-scenes, I would have liked to see how a vampire’s mojo works. Soon after, Bella begins to realize her period is late. As she starts questioning whether it can happen or not, the fetus moves inside of her and confirms her suspicions.

Jacob’s wolf-pack learns of the conception of this human-vampire hybrid child and begin plotting to kill Bella and her unborn child. Jacob steps forward to help the Cullens prevent and fight off the attack. Meanwhile, Bella’s pregnancy is moving along at an accelerated rate which causes several health problems for Bella. She has become weak as the baby grows and feeds on her blood in the womb.

I won’t give away the ending as I sum up my review but I will say that of all the Twilight Saga films, “Breaking Dawn: Part 1″ has been the most mature of all of them. The graphics are clearly CGI but it isn’t badly done and the story itself is coming together. Without having read any of the novels, I now understand the story in full with this installment of the saga. I got to say, I’ve been converted. Still not a fan of the sparkles though. The moral of the story in “Breaking Dawn: Part 1″? Well, it seems to be what my mother always told me growing up – “Don’t have unprotected sex and get pregnant with a vampire-baby, it never ends well deary.” So as all you Twilight fans out there head into the crowded theaters this week, I hope you get as much enjoyment as I did out of it.
