Best Places to Bowl in Utah County

For some reason, my six-year-old daughter Heather is convinced that I love bowling. One girls night out at the bowling alley and she thinks that’s all I do. In fact, Heather is the one that really loves bowling, which is why we tried the Kids Bowl Free Summer Program at a local bowling alley.

Miracle Bowl in Orem, UT has been around for a very long time. I don’t remember going there before they remodeled, but the redone bowling alley is great. It is well-lit and doesn’t have old bowling alley smell. During the remodel the owners definitely were keeping children in mind, as the ramps that little ones use to push the ball down the lane are shaped like dragons, instead of the regular metal ones. It appears that they have recently replaced a good portion of the bowling shoes, which is nice.

A computer system at each lane allows you to enter your groups information. We usually use Frog and Flamingo just for fun. The system automatically tracks your score, and shows fun little videos if you get a strike or a gutter ball.

About the only negative thing I can say about Miracle Bowl is their soda machine is old and doesn’t have many options for drinks. But the bathrooms are really nice.

The other bowling alley we go to is Fat Cats in Provo, Utah. For me, the best part about Fat Cats is that we often have gift certificates and discount coupons, and they have La Costa Vida as their restaurant. I do not care for the fact that the bowling balls seem exceptionally greasy. Fat Cats has a cosmic bowling theme, so it’s very dark and painted with fluorescent paints that glow with the black lights. It is also really loud, and very crowded. It does have a small play area for children in the restaurant area, which my daughter really likes.

So if you’re out for dinner and bowling, Fat Cats would be a good choice as it is a one-stop destination. Plus there is a Hogi Yogi next to it, so you can get frozen yogurt afterwards. But if you want a traditional bowling alley feel, minus the cigarette smoke, then Miracle Bowl would be the place for you. Plus they have an awesome mailbox.
