Being Happy 101

Be thankful. The happiest people don’t tend to be the people with the most stuff. They’re the people who spend the most time thinking about the things they’re thankful for. If you focus on what isn’t good and what isn’t right and what you don’t have, of course you’re going to feel unhappy. But if you put your mind toward an awareness of the reasons you have to be greatful, you’ll instantly feel a little happier.

Do For Others. Everyone knows that age-old saying, “It’s better to give than to recieve.” Well, it’s true. Doing something good for someone else, whether it’s something they’ve asked for help with or just random niceness, do something that helps someone else. The less you have to gain from doing it, the better. Try and see if you don’t feel a tingle of happiness.

Take Care of Yourself. Happy people love and value themselves. No one who is filled with self-loathing can be happy, can they? So spend some time caring for you. Eat a supernourishing meal, go outside on a nice day and take a walk or a bike ride. Spend a Sunday afternoon in bed reading your favorite book. Do things that are good for your body and mind. You won’t regret it.

Achieve A Goal. It feels good to a achieve goals. Even accomplishing something small can make you feel a little surge of self-confidence and happiness. Whether it’s a small goal or a larger one, do something you feel good about. It’ll make you feel great.

Spend time with people you love. It’s easy to get so busy that you don’t spend enough time with the people you love. Set aside some time to spend with them, and ask them to do the same. Make it a game night or an afternoon at the park with your kids. Make it a visit to your grandma. Call a friend you haven’t talked to in a while. Being with people you love is an easy way to feel happier.
